Event Report: Civic Education Training on Integrity

1.0 Background and Purpose
As part of its continued efforts to promote ethical leadership and accountability among young people,
Retizen Organization conducted a civic education training on 28th February 2026 at Kamobo
Secondary School under the Youth for Accountability Project 2.0. The training focused on
strengthening youthsโ understanding of integrity as a core value in leadership, governance, and
community development.
The purpose of the training was to equip participants with knowledge on integrity and its foundation,
while encouraging responsible civic participation and ethical conduct. Through interactive discussions
and guided engagement, the session aimed to empower youths to uphold integrity, promote
accountability, and positively influence leadership practices within their respective communities.
2.0 Training Summary
The civic education training was successfully held at Kamobo Secondary School and brought together
70 youth participants drawn from four community teams: Kayodester, Mosgaa, Tugoin, and
Gongagonga. The training officially commenced at 10:00 a.m. and concluded at 2:45 p.m.
Despite heavy rainfall experienced during the training period, the session progressed effectively.
Participants maintained a high level of discipline, focus, and cooperation throughout the training. The
topic, Integrity and Its Foundation, generated meaningful engagement and active participation.
Overall, the training met its intended objectives and recorded a strong turnout and positive response
from the youths.
3.0 Implementation and Activities
The training began with an opening session that introduced Retizen Organization and outlined the
objectives of the Youth for Accountability Project 2.0. Participants were encouraged to actively
engage and share their views openly during the session.
The main training session focused on integrity and its foundation, emphasizing values such as
honesty, accountability, transparency, and responsibility in leadership. Facilitators guided participants
through discussions on how integrity influences leadership decisions and impacts governance and
community development. Youths shared experiences from their communities and reflected on
leadership challenges affecting accountability and service delivery.
During the training, heavy rainfall posed a temporary challenge, requiring participants to move closer
together to ensure effective communication. Despite this, discipline remained high, and participants
continued to engage attentively and respectfully. The session concluded with a reflection and
question-and-answer segment, after which the training officially ended at 2:45 p.m.
4.0 Participation Overview
The training recorded a total attendance of 70 youth participants drawn from four community teams
representing Kayodester, Mosgaa, Tugoin, and Gongagonga. Attendance remained consistent
throughout the session, with participants staying engaged from the start of the training to its conclusion. Youths from all participating communities took part actively in discussions, question-and- answer sessions, and interactive engagements facilitated during the training. Despite the challenging weather conditions experienced during the day, participation levels remained high, and the youths demonstrated strong commitment, cooperation, and discipline. The diversity of participants from the four communities contributed to meaningful exchanges of ideas and experiences, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the training.
5.0 Key Outcomes and Achievements
The training successfully reached 70 youths with structured civic education on integrity and ethical
leadership. Participants demonstrated an improved understanding of the concept of integrity and its
importance in governance and community leadership. One notable achievement was the high level of
discipline and positive behavior displayed by participants throughout the training.
Youth participants actively contributed to discussions, answered questions confidently, and raised
relevant questions of their own. Many expressed interest in future trainings and suggested involving
more members of the community in upcoming sessions. This enthusiasm reflects growing awareness,
acceptance, and trust in Retizen Organizationโs civic education initiatives.
6.0 Challenges Encountered
The main challenge experienced during the training was heavy rainfall, which affected comfort and
caused participants to leave the venue slightly later than planned. At certain moments, the rain
required participants to gather closer to ensure clear communication. Despite this challenge, the
training continued successfully due to the cooperation of participants and the flexibility of the
facilitation team.
7.0 Participant Feedback and Observations
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Despite the weather conditions, youths
remained attentive, disciplined, and highly active throughout the training. Participants answered
questions actively, asked insightful questions, and showed genuine interest in the topic of integrity.
Several youths inquired about the timing of the next training, while others expressed interest in
inviting additional community members to future sessions. Overall, participants demonstrated good
behavior, strong engagement, and a positive attitude toward civic education.
8.0 Recommendations and Way Forward
It is recommended that Retizen Organization continues conducting similar civic education trainings to
build on the strong interest demonstrated by the youths. Future trainings should consider weather
preparedness and suitable venues to improve participant comfort. Expanding participation to include
more youths and community members, as suggested by participants, will further strengthen
community awareness, ethical leadership, and accountability. Sustained engagement with young
people will contribute positively to community development and the long-term objectives of the
Youth for Accountability Project.
