1.0 Purpose and Objectives
The civic education training was organized by Retizen Organization (CBO) as part of the ongoing
Youth for Accountability Project 2.0, which aims to empower young people with knowledge and
awareness on leadership, accountability, and responsible citizenship. The main purpose of the training
was to provide youths with an opportunity to learn and discuss important issues related to good
governance and environmental stewardship. Through the session, the organization intended to
strengthen the understanding of young people on how they can contribute positively to leadership,
decision-making, and sustainable development within their communities.
2.0 Overview / Executive Summary
On Saturday, 7th March 2026, Retizen Organization conducted a civic education training at Kamobo
Secondary School, bringing together youths from Mosgaa, Kayodester, All Saints, and Dira Queens.
The activity was designed to encourage youth participation in governance discussions and to promote
awareness on environmental responsibility. Although the turnout was slightly lower than expected due
to several teams attending tournaments on the same day, the training was still successfully carried out
with 69 participants in attendance. The principal of Kamobo Secondary School welcomed the
initiative and expressed appreciation for the organizationโs efforts to engage and educate young
people in the community.
3.0 Detailed Description of Activities
The training began with a brief introduction of Retizen Organization and an explanation of the
objectives of the Youth for Accountability Project 2.0. Participants were welcomed and encouraged
to actively engage throughout the session. The main focus of the training was on good governance
and environmental stewardship, where facilitators guided discussions on the role of young people
in promoting accountability, responsible leadership, and protection of the environment.
During the session, participants shared their views and experiences on governance issues within their
communities. The training involved interactive discussions that allowed the youths to ask questions
and contribute their ideas. The question-and-answer sessions were particularly engaging, as
participants demonstrated interest in understanding how they can take part in promoting
accountability and responsible leadership in their communities.
4.0 Participation Summary
The training targeted youths drawn from four community teams: Mosgaa, Kayodester, All Saints,
and Dira Queens. In total, 69 youths attended the session. While the number was slightly lower
than anticipated due to other activities such as sports tournaments taking place on the same day, the
participants who attended remained committed and engaged throughout the training. Their
participation created an interactive environment where different perspectives and experiences could
be shared.
5.0 Key Achievements and Outputs
Despite the smaller turnout, the training achieved several positive outcomes. Participants
demonstrated an improved understanding of good governance, accountability, and environmental
stewardship. The discussions helped raise awareness about the role of young people in community
development and leadership. Another important achievement was the high level of discipline and
cooperation shown by the youths throughout the training. Their active participation and willingness to
ask questions reflected a genuine interest in the topic and the desire to learn more about civic
responsibility.
6.0 Challenges and Mitigation
One of the challenges experienced during the training was the lower turnout of participants, mainly
because some of the invited teams were participating in tournaments on the same day and could only
send a few representatives. Another challenge was interference with the power supply, which
briefly disrupted part of the session. However, the facilitators and participants adapted quickly to the
situation, allowing the training to continue without major interruption. The commitment and patience
shown by the participants ensured that the program continued successfully.
7.0 Feedback and Observations
The overall response from participants was very positive. The youths were attentive, cooperative, and
actively involved throughout the session. Many participants asked thoughtful questions and shared
their ideas during discussions, showing their interest in the topics being discussed. Several youths also
expressed appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the training and encouraged Retizen
Organization to organize more sessions in the future so that more young people in the community can
benefit from similar learning opportunities.
